Ensuring Access to Essential Medicines in Developing Countries icon-pdf.gif

This APG Workstream position paper (July 2008) sets out the general approach of the APG to the developing world. This paper includes the importance of infrastructure in the developing world,  working with the UK Government, differential pricing, Intellectual Property Rights, harmonisation of drug registration in Africa and a number of other issues.

The Medicines Transparency Alliance (MeTA) Project

This paper (November 2007) is the last of a number of APG submissions made over 18 months to the Department for International Development on MeTA. The Department has since promoted pilot schemes in a number of countries which represents a new multi-stakeholder approach towards increasing transparency around the selection, regulation, procurement, sale and distribution of medicines in developing countries.

This is a short response (March 2007) by the APG to the consultative paper issued by the Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health, entitled Health is Global. The purpose behind the consultative paper was to provide a coherent strategic framework for the UK to maximise the impact on global health, and the finalised departmental report was published in September 2008.
